Swap This with That: Making Small Changes To Improve Your Nutrition

Becoming a much healthier person is not as complicated or difficult as most people think. It simply requires the willingness to make some small changes that will make a big difference. If you make a few simple changes to your meals, you can reduce the number of calories you are consuming, get more vitamins and nutrients in your system, and ultimately improve your overall nutrition.

Replace Sour Cream with Greek Yogurt

Greek yogurt is the perfect replacement for sour cream due to its tangy flavor. You can put it on tacos, use it as a dip for different meats, add it to desserts, and so much more. If you use Greek yogurt instead of sour cream, you will reduce the calories you are consuming. Greek yogurt is also a great source of protein.

Bake with Applesauce Instead of Oil

When baking certain foods, your recipe might call for the use of vegetable oil. However, vegetable oil does contain a lot of calories, especially when you are using a lot of it in a recipe. If you would love to reduce the calories in your recipe without taking away from the flavor of that dish, try using unsweetened applesauce. It keeps your baked goods moist and flavorful while lowering the number of calories and fats in the dish. You can eliminate up to 800 calories from a baked dessert by using unsweetened applesauce instead of using any oil.

Skip the Butter and Use Mashed Avocado

Many recipes call for butter. However, butter is loaded with fat and calories. It can cause weight gain to occur. The good news is that there is a great alternative that is much better for you. Rather than using butter when a recipe calls for it, use mashed avocado. It lowers the calorie count in the dish, but it also provides a source of healthy fats while giving the dish a moist and delicious taste. Even if you do not like the way that an avocado tastes by itself, you can still mash it and add it to your recipe because the flavor of the avocado is masked by all the other ingredients in the dish.

Ditch Traditional Pasta and Replace It with Spaghetti Squash

You may enjoy eating spaghetti with meatballs, sausage, or even vegetables. Unfortunately, pasta contains a lot of calories and carbohydrates that can cause weight gain. When you do not want to stop eating your favorite dishes, but you are looking for a healthier alternative, spaghetti squash is a great option. The squash contains essential antioxidants. It is low in calories, great for digestion, and quite flavorful. You can add your favorite sauce to the spaghetti squash and enjoy it with some of your favorite meats and vegetables.

By swapping a few of the foods you eat with healthier and more nutritious alternatives, you can become a much healthier person. The alternatives contain vitamins, nutrients, and antioxidants, but they are also low in calories and act as the perfect substitutes in these different dishes.
